U.S. Diversity Lottery
Diversity Visa Lottery 2009 (DV-2010)
Each year the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program makes available 50,000 immigrant visas to persons from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States.
Entries for DV-2008 Visa Lottery starts October 2, 2008 and ends December 1, 2008
The
50,000 winners be interviewed and granted permanent residence
between October1, 2009 and September 30, 2010. All applications must
be made online.
Entries must be submitted electronically between October 2, 2008 and December 1, 2008. Paper entries are no longer accepted.
Persons
from the following countries are ineligible to apply: Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia,
Dominican Republic, El
Salvador, Great Britain, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Pakistan, Philippines,
Peru, Poland, Russia, South Korea, United Kingdom and Vietnam.
There
is no fee to apply for the visa lottery, and it is not required to hire a lawyer
to apply. However, since the State
Department notifies approximately 100,000 persons that they are
"winners" and only half of these applicants actually get permanent
residence, it may be wise to retain the services of an immigration lawyer should
you be selected.
The
State Department will issue a notice of receipt containing the name, date of
birth, country of chargeability, and a
time/date stamp to each person who successfully registers online.
